Soap and Genital Herpes

Could my soap be making my genital herpes worse? When I have an outbreak, my soap seems to irritate the area even more than it already is. Should I switch soaps, or is it all in my head?

I'm not a Physician, nor related to any medical field, but can honestly say when I have a break out I have been treating it with an over the counter medicine called Equate Triple Antibiotic ointment and using it twice daily; along with stopping sex.

Also, I noticed when taking Antibiotics for the flue I didn’t experience any break out for sometime after the dosage. I found that Equate Triple Antibiotic ointment reduced the flare up and cleared my skin after two/three days of treatment from the initial onset.
